Hey there! I’m Andrew Natoli, a 19 year-old radio host, webmaster, photographer, videographer, audio producer, computer technician and pretty cool guy. I’m currently enrolled in the Radio & Television Production program at Suffolk County Community College and keep busy on the side with plenty of jobs and my own business. When I do get a moment to breath I love hanging in the studios at WALK 97.5 competing in fierce air-hockey competitions with my friends and traveling around Long Island with my camera.

AN Tech & Media

In October of 2010 I decided to take a break from the common retail environments commuting college students normally dwell in and take a shot at starting my own small business. I resigned from my position at OfficeMax and went down to the county clerk’s office to register “Andrew Natoli Technology and Media Services.”

I grew a small base of customers in need of purchasing customized desktop PC’s as well as repairs and tune-ups. Additionally, I entered the realm of audio recording, producing CD’s for concerts at my old High School that students and their family members could purchase from my online store.

I later returned to a part time job in retail to earn some extra money but continue to service client PC’s and I have established an affiliation with the Smithtown Friends of Music doing photography and producing concert recordings to assist their fundraiser for student scholarships.

I'm big on having fun whether at work or on the bike trails in Brookhaven

SmithtownRadio.com

“Smithtown’s home for news, weather and commercial free music!” While I had took part in online school projects in the past, none ever flourished quite like this! Smithtown Radio was started in 2005 by my friend and colleague, James Brierton as a Shoutcast-powered online radio station with music, daily news and a small website to go along with it.

I jumped on-board in June of 2009 as a producer for the station’s live weekly show. Basically I hit a button so they could talk on-air and would then queue up the next song to keep ball rolling. Having a history with web development and managing sites, I was frequently in talks with James about changing our site’s purpose and using it to enhance the quality of our programming. At the time, James was preparing to leave for college as I entered my senior year of high school and being we operated from the basement of his parents’ house and had little interest from the high school after James’ graduation, the station’s future was up in the air.

We kept it going though and in February 2011 I was appointed webmaster and worked to redesign the site as well as develop new ways for our staff to create content and draw traffic, loyalty and listeners. Since then we saw a 1,105% jump in traffic in just one year.

SmithtownRadio.com was also featured in Newsday’s LI Life section on August 21st, 2011. My experience working with James and SmithtownRadio is one I’m immeasurably grateful for. The experience itself has been great but it has also lead me to great opportunities such as a short project with CNN and a job with WALK 97.5fm. In addition to being the site’s webmaster, I work as an on-air personality and run remote live broadcasts and promotional events.

From school project to a leader in local news, Smithtown Radio has lead me to many great experiences

WALK 97.5

As a kid I’d walk a mile to school every morning sun, snow, sleet or hail tuned into one thing. Not how hungry or tired I still was but instead the radio with my little portable MP3 player and FM Transceiver. Being the guy on-air for me had always been a big dream of mine dating back to the day’s I’d race toy cars around my bedroom and narrate the event into my Fisher Price tape recorder. May of 2010 my 18 year-old self turned into a glossy-eyed little kid as he took his first step inside an actual radio studio as an employee.

I’m not an on-air personality… yet ;) … but a promotions assistant. I’m one of the guys you see riding around the island in a van (or truck) wrapped completely with our station’s logo as well as Bon Jovi and Michael Buble. I help run promotional events where we go inflate a giant bear, set up a table and hand out a few prizes here and there. I also help set up live remote broadcasts, do photography for events as well as videos.

I’ve also been taking the opportunity to hang out with our hosts on-air to get a personal look at everything they do as well as learn to work our boards. I’ve recently begun moving up from the CD-player run boards we use at school to learning how to operate the boards at WALK and using NexGen.

Shooting the intro scene to Nardy News Episode 5 - June 2011

CNN iReport: Haiti Crisis Relief Project

On January 12, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook and devastated the country of Haiti killing between 50,000 – 316,000 and leaving millions homeless. The quake became the third deadliest of all time and effected families all over the world. In an attempt to help officials and families track and find their loved ones, CNN launched a project through their iReport website to receive, organize and track reports of the missing and the deceased. (http://haiticrisis.cnn.com)

I was honoured to join a team of great people who spent hours around the clock reading and filing thousands of hopeful, touching and heart-breaking stories about victims or survivors. The project was “changing” to say the least and we managed to pull off the bulk of it in just about a week.

It was an experience despite working from home and I’m glad to have been a part of it and to have helped so many people reconnect with their loved ones after the quake.

I believe that "No Pain, No Gain" Should Apply to Air-Hockey
