Spherack 3 has returned once more from the deadwith a new update I just pushed out… say hello to v3.2.070! Now for those of you who wondering why I bothered updating the game considering I “gave up” on it almost two years ago, it’s still a ton of fun to play from time to time and I like to update it to keep it fun being I don’t have the time to produce a brand new game.

I actually just played a few rounds of Spherack 1 and 2 to celebrate this update and wow… Spherack has certainly come a long way. Unfortunately it never picked up beyond casual games with my friends but I have no regrets spending all the time I have on this game.

Anyway, I’m sure you’re dying to know what’s different, right? Well for you die-hard Spherans and Eradians out there… look at the picture! Do you notice anything? It’s WIDESCREEN baby! I’m sure playing a 4:3 game on our shiny new 16:9 flat panel monitors was driving a few of us nuts out there aside from myself so I’ve updated the game’s resolution to 1024×576. It’s a little low, yes but my goal was to make it look as good as possible without butchering frame rates for those of you with older machines.

Also you may notice that screen shot is of a BRAND NEW MAP! Yep, say hello to mp_cave. Uses the same tile set and lighting system as the caverns map you may be familiar with but it incorporates the strategic layouts of Spherack v1.10. This is a fairly big map with plenty of passageways, strategic platforms and ladders placed all throughout to help add some flavour to your kills and plan how your team makes the attack. This map totally gives you the option to set up camp or go out hunting.

Among the mix, bug fixes and slight feature revisions. Here’s the full changelog:

v3.2.069 (7 April 2010) —–> v3.2.070 (12 November 2011)

Changed game window resolution to 1024x576 (16:9)
Updated IP Address Detection in launcher
Grenades will now explode when held if hit by shotgun shells or near other explosions
Grenades will now explode if caught in other explosions or shot by shotguns
Blood stains now fade and remove themselves over time
Blood stains now clear automatically when the map changes
Added a New Map (map_cavern)
Fixed issue where view could be extended past the right end of the map
Reduced view sensitivity to corssheir movement
Slightly reduced the power of grenade launchers a little more

To get the update, simply just launch your Spherack Reloaded client (as well as the server if you’re looking to host) and the update should download and install automatically.

Hope you enjoy and leave me some feedback!
